Odds

The point spread is the number of points by which odds makers predict the favored team will win. If you bet on the favorite, the margin of victory must be more than the point spread to win the bet. If you bet on the underdog, you win if the favored team fails to outdo the point spread or if the underdog wins or ties the game outright.

The over/under is the total points expected of both teams to score. You bet on whether the total points scored will be more or less than this number.

Point spread
Point spread is what the team that is favored must win by.
Team with the negative number (DASH) is favored. In football a point spread is used. For example, if the line was -6 1/2 for Dallas, Dallas would have to win by 7 or more points to cover the spread. If Dallas won by less then 7 points (Lost), then the underdog would have covered the spread.  Football almost always uses a dime line, which means that whichever team you place a bet on, your cost would be $110 to win $100 (-110).

Total Bets, Over/Under lines

Total Bets; over/under is a bet on what the total of both team's scores will be. In order to win on an over/under, the over or under must be selected. Then the total must either exceed the total line if the "over" was chosen or fall below the total, if the "under" was chosen.

Example: Dallas O/U - 15
                 16 or more Over win
                 14 or less Under win
15 would be a push ( Unless otherwise stated in rules)

Money Management

Keep good records and wager with a bankroll that you are able to afford. Break down your wagers into sessions or percentages. This can be determine in different ways such as 5% of your bankroll per play or 20% per session. Make these decisions before you begin your wagering for the season.
I would not use more than 2% of my bankroll on a wager !!

Line
Shop for the best line. Believe me that a half-point can be the difference of winning or losing another twenty games for the season.

Self Discipline
Don’t' chase! Do not increase your wagers and don't make all kinds of exotic bets. Control your self-discipline or the chances are extremely high you will go broke.
